Motivation is BULLSH*T!

Living a more Disciplined life

Hey! Bet that got your attention didn’t it? But wait….”Travis, aren’t you in the motivational space?” I am but that got it’s name before I got here. So don’t blame me!

Now what the hell I mean by that VERY bold statement is a whole other matter and one that I am certain is going to annoy others in the industry. I’m okay with that too!

Let’s be real. How many people out there are peddling the whole “It’s all about mindset” nonsense and calling themselves “motivation coaches”. Too many to count these days. Do you know why though? Because it sells! Not only that but it sells to the same people OVER and OVER again.

Folks who have a real desire to improve their lives continue to invest in theses “motivators” hoping that it will be the key to breakthroughs for them in life, business, fitness, relationships, you name it. And OVER and OVER again the changes aren’t lasting and folks wind up back at square one.

Want to know why? Like I said at the top, motivation is BS! Do you want to know what really works for long term change and success? DISCIPLINE!

Yep, I said it….DISCIPLINE is wildly more important than motivation! Let me explain. I get up at or before 4am EVERY. SINGLE. DAY! Do you think I’m motivated to do anything besides hit the snooze button at 4am? NOPE! Not at all!

So, why do I drag myself out of bed? Because I’m freaking disciplined! I know the goals I have for my day and beyond that, my life. I know that if I’m ever going to get any of it done I’ve got to be disciplined. I’ve got to make the things I WANT to do eventually become the things I ALWAYS do.

Here’s the rub….it takes practice to become disciplined. You’ve got to care more about the outcome than the ass pain! You’ve got to want those goals and end states BIG time! Trust me it’s not easy! It takes work and time to develop solid and disciplined habits. BUT eventually it will just be what you DO!

Here’s 5 tips to start getting those habits in check, start living a more disciplined life, and smashing those goals even when you’re not motivated!

  1. Set clear goals: Having a clear idea of what you want to achieve will make it easier to stay focused.

  2. Make a plan: Break your goals down into smaller, actionable steps and create a plan to accomplish them.

  3. Eliminate distractions: Identify and eliminate sources of distraction in your environment to help you stay on task.

  4. Hold yourself accountable: Keep track of your progress and hold yourself accountable for staying on track.

  5. Develop a routine: Establish a daily routine that includes time for work, exercise, and relaxation to help you stay disciplined.

So the next time you’re feeling “un-motivated” just realize you’re like EVERY other human on the planet. Then set yourself apart through discipline!
